Planning to become a Surface Mine Manager
Step into your next leadership role with the advanced skills, operational insight, and professional authority demanded across Queensland’s coal mining sector. This Advanced Diploma is purpose-built for professionals ready to lead site operations, manage risk, and fulfil the statutory requirements of a Surface Mine Manager (SMM).
More than a qualification, it’s a direct pathway to one of the industry’s most critical roles. Whether you’re formalising extensive frontline experience or preparing to step into statutory management, this nationally recognised program equips you to lead with precision, compliance, and clarity.
Led by Certificate of Competency Holders
Our facilitators hold current Certificates of Competency for statutory roles such as Surface Mine Manager and Site Senior Executive (SSE). They bring firsthand experience and insight into what it takes to meet the expectations of the Board of Examiners — and lead safely, effectively, and within the law.
Insights That Bridge Theory and Practice
While the work at this level is documentation- and planning-intensive, it’s shaped by the realities of surface coal operations. From legislative compliance to critical control management and principal hazard planning, the focus is on applying knowledge that actually drives safety, performance, and statutory outcomes — not just ticking theory boxes.
Built on Standards, Not Shortcuts
Mining professionals choose MINRES because we don’t take the easy route — and neither do they. Our programs are designed to uphold the integrity of statutory training, with real assessment and real outcomes. Many of our graduates now hold senior positions, including Surface Mine Manager and Site Senior Executive — not because it was fast, but because it was earned.

What Students Have to Say...
I Would Like To Thank You Guys For The QM Training!
I found everyone very friendly and professional. Admin had all the content ready to go, refreshments at the ready. The content was very relevant, useful and the trainers delivered it from experience, not just from a textbook. I found the skills and techniques were very practical and offered real solutions to real issues that we face in these times on a mine or quarry site. It was nice to complete training in an area in which I hadn’t already covered. I would highly recommend MINRES to anyone seeking QM or any other training.”
